Meet Dr. Emily

Dr. Emily Sbiroli is a board-certified emergency medicine physician, educator, researcher, consultant, and nationally recognized thought leader in climate and health. For a decade, she has worked at the intersection of medicine, sustainability, systems thinking, and communication—helping reimagine healthcare for a changing world.

As a frontline emergency physician, Dr. Emily has cared for patients of all ages through some of life's most critical moments. Those experiences have reinforced her belief that healthier communities begin with stronger, more resilient healthcare systems.

She is the Co-Creator and Course Director of the Sustainable Health Systems Certificatewithin the University of Colorado's award-winning Diploma in Climate Medicine, where she also serves as Affiliate Faculty. Through her consulting work, she partners with healthcare organizations, researchers, innovators, and public health leaders to translate complex challenges into practical, evidence-based solutions.

A passionate educator and communicator, Dr. Emily is a multi-time speaker at CleanMed, an expert guest on numerous climate and healthcare podcasts, and a published researcher in the field of climate and health. Her work has also included national fellowships with Health Care Without Harm, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the University of Colorado's National Physician Fellowship in Climate Science and Health Policy.

Dr. Emily completed her medical degree at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, and her emergency medicine residency at University of California San Diego Health where she served as Chief Resident. She earned her undergraduate degree from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, and her post-baccalaureate in pre-medical science from Columbia University.

Whether she's caring for patients, teaching, speaking, consulting, researching, or hosting conversations, Dr. Emily is driven by one belief: meaningful change happens when we connect ideas across disciplines and empower people to improve the systems we all rely on.
